Rwanda Child Online Protection Policy

Child online protection is something that all nations struggle with equally. 5Rights Foundation, in partnership with the University of East London, the Government of Rwanda, and University of Rwanda, has produced a Child Online Protection Policy (COP Policy) and five-year Implementation Plan for Rwanda, to protect and support children and young people in online settings.

Digital technology does not have one responsible stakeholder, it has many: from governments, regulators, international institutions and the enforcement community, to civil society, business, the tech sector, academia, teachers, families, parents, and even children themselves. 5Rights Foundation’s COP Policy for the Rwandan Government maps all of these stakeholders, and outlines the necessity to work in partnership, each doing what is necessary to protect children.

The Government of Rwanda formally adopted the COP Policy in June 2019.
