Joint letter: Re-examine Data (Use and Access) AI clauses

5Rights, along with trades unions, academics, NGOs and campaign organisations, have signed a joint letter calling on the UK Government to re-examine automated decision-making clauses in the Data Use and Access (DUA) Bill.

Current proposals in the DUA Bill are set to remove the existing right that people in the UK have not to be subject to automated decision-making. Such change would undermine the governing of Article 22 of the UK GDPR, “Automated Decision Making”, meaning children would be subject to life-changing decisions made entirely by automated decision-making.

In this joint letter, we ask, with our fellow signatories, for the UK Government to extend automated decision-making accountability rather than reduce it. Data can be biased, models can be wrong, and the potential for discrimination is significant.
