Upcoming Event: Timely new book by 5Rights founder provides powerful insight into impact of tech and what we can do about it
Baroness Beeban Kidron will launch her new book Users in a live online conversation hosted by the Digital Futures for Children (DFC) centre on 25 June, bringing together leading voices in children’s rights, digital policy and safeguarding to examine the growing influence of technology on young people’s lives.

The event, hosted by the DFC centre, a joint initiative of the London School of Economics (LSE) and 5Rights Foundation will feature Baroness Kidron in discussion with Professor Sonia Livingstone, Director of the DFC centre, and Sir Peter Wanless, Chair of the Board of Trustees at 5Rights Foundation and former Chief Executive of the NSPCC.
Users explores how digital technologies have reshaped childhood, democracy and public life, and argues for greater accountability from technology companies whose products increasingly shape the experiences of children and young people. The discussion will examine the choices that underpin today’s digital environment and the actions needed to build a safer, fairer online world.
Baroness Kidron, founder and Honorary President of 5Rights Foundation, has spent more than a decade campaigning for children’s rights in the digital environment and has been instrumental in advancing protections for children online in the UK and internationally.
The conversation comes at a pivotal moment as policymakers, educators and families grapple with the impact of emerging technologies on children’s wellbeing, privacy and development.
Through its research and advocacy, the DFCcentre and 5Rights continue to champion a rights-based approach to digital innovation, ensuring that children’s needs are reflected in the design of technology and enforcement of regulations.
The online event will take place on 25 June from 4:00–5:00pm BST and is open to the public via registration.
