Joint statement on the children’s online safety regime
Together with more than 20 organisations and bereaved parents, we have published a joint statement urging Ofcom and the Government to work together and commit to defending and strengthening the children’s online safety regime.
Signed by organisations including the NSPCC, Internet Watch Foundation and bereaved families, the statement welcomes progress on the Online Safety Act but warns that recent concessions to tech industry pressure have weakened key protections. The Children’s Coalition is calling for robust, future-proof regulation that sets high expectations for safety by design, accelerates the development of new codes of practice, and ensures strong parliamentary oversight.
Innovation must not come at the cost of children’s wellbeing. With the Protection of Children Code of Practice due imminently, the signatories urge the Government to keep their promises and make the UK the safest place in the world for children online.
