5Rights responds to ICO’s Children’s Code Strategy 2024-25

5Rights has responded to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) call for evidence on its 2024-25 strategy for the Children’s Code (the Age Appropriate Design Code or ‘the Code’).

Last August, the ICO sought views on the Code’s impact, enforcement, and required changes. At 5Rights, we’ve highlighted where we believe the ICO must go further to ensure the Code’s enforcement achieves its foundational aims and puts children’s best interests in service design data practices.

We are calling for more transparency, assured protection of the Code in future legislation, enforcement of age-appropriate design, and an independent review of the ICO’s enforcement of the Code.
