August Statement on Global Digital Compact Informal Consultation

On behalf of a group of organisations dedicated to advancing children’s rights in the digital environment, 5Rights has submitted its most recent input to the consultation of the Global Digital Compact.

Part of this process has involved stakeholders from governments to the private sector to civil society and youth to provide feedback to support the Global Digital Compact’s mission to build an “open, free, secure and human-centred digital future for all”.

Our latest input welcomes the emphasis on children’s rights within the Compact, particularly the reference to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the commitment to strengthening national policy frameworks for protecting children and their rights in the revised version of the Compact.

We strongly recommend that the final text retains these crucial references.

With the Summit of the Future exactly a month away, we reiterate our call to strengthen the Compact for Children so that it can achieve what it originally set out to do: build an open, free, secure digital future for all, including children.
