5Rights and IEEE launch new standard for designing digital services with children in mind
The new guidance will equip organisations with the tools to put young people’s needs at the heart of the design of digital products and services.
5Rights Foundation and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE SA) have collaborated to develop the pioneering IEEE 2089-2021 Standard for Age Appropriate Digital Service Framework. The Standard introduces practical steps that companies can follow to design digital products and services that are age appropriate.
This represents an important milestone in equipping designers with the tools they need to build the digital world that children and young people deserve. It will support global efforts from regulators and organisations seeking to ensure that young people are catered for in the digital world.
The Standard is being made available free of charge so that any organisation involved in the design of digital products and services can benefit from this framework, and put young people’s best interests ahead of commercial ones in the digital world.
The launch will be followed by an event next year to discuss the ambition and implementation of the Age Appropriate Digital Service Framework (IEEE 2089). We hope you will join Konstantinos Karachalios, Managing Director at IEEE SA; Katina Michael, Chair of the IEEE Working Group; and Baroness Kidron on 08 February 2022. Please Save the Date, and if you want to be sent further details on the event in due course let us know on [email protected].
