Nebraska Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act
The Nebraska Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act (LB504) was passed by the State Legislative Assembly with overwhelming bipartisan support on 28 May 2025, approved by Governor Jim Pillen on 30 May 2025 and came into effect on 1 January 2026.
Introduced by Senator Carolyn Bosn on 21 January 2025, the Nebraska Kids Code is age-appropriate design code legislation requiring tech companies to implement privacy-by-default and safety-by-design protections for kids online. This means not collecting or selling their data, setting high privacy standards by default, and avoiding manipulative design.
The bill was requested by Governor Jim Pillen as a key element of the State’s strategy to address dangers young people face online.
“We’re never going to give up on our kids. They are our future. Today marks a gigantic step in protecting our kids.”
Governor Jim Pillen
