5Rights appoints Head of US Affairs as Kids Code makes progress in California

5Rights Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Nichole Rocha as our Head of US Affairs, a new role within the growing organisation.

Nichole joins 5Rights from the California Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee where she served as Chief Consultant. Prior to that, she was counsel to the California Senate Judiciary Committee.

Nichole adds her expertise in US legislation and decision-making processes to the 5Rights team at an exciting time, when a Bill to establish protections for children in the online world is progressing through the California legislature.

Modelled on the UK legislation of the same name, the California Age Appropriate Design Code Bill – which 5Rights is sponsoring – has been passed by the State Assembly, is currently making its way through the State Senate, and could be on the Governor’s desk to sign as early as September.

The California Code is a chance to secure best-in-the-Nation online protections for children in California as well as set the standard for the US.

The 5Rights team is delighted to have Nichole on board to lead our work in California and guide us through this promising chapter and what comes next in the journey to deliver the digital world that young people deserve.
