Teen Girls Confront an Epidemic of Deepfake Nudes in Schools
In October, schoolgirls at Westfield High School alerted administrators to instances of boys in their school using artificial intelligence software to create and share fabricated sexually explicit material of them. Limited action has followed.
This issue exists beyond Westfield High School, with schools and children all over the world being faced with the increasing popularity and accessibility of explicit generative AI software. As quoted by Dr. Bregy, the superintendent of Beverly Hills Unified School District, this is an unthinkable “invasion of students’ personal, emotional safety”.
What is clear is that more must be done to set a high bar for the protection of children from AI risks and harms.
