New Mexico Kids Code

The New Mexico Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC) was unanimously passed by the Senate Tax, Business, and Transportation Committee on February 23, 2023, and entered the State Senate on the 17th of January 2024 through Senate Bill 68.

Introduced by Senator George Muñoz and Representative Pamelya Herndon, the bill for children’s privacy by design and default was set as a top legislative priority for the 30-day session in 2024 by New Mexico’s Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Backed by 5Rights and a nationwide Kids Code Coalition, the bill also has the support of local organisations including the New Mexico Pediatric SocietyProgressNow New Mexico, the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for New Mexico and Guardians of the Children Rio Grande, and 82% of New Mexicans.
