Children and Screens on UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code Impact
The Children and Screens landmark report provides a concrete review of how the UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC) has led to 91 significant industry changes.
The statutory Code of Practice was formulated by Baroness Beeban Kidron in 2019, who worked with the UK Government to ensure children’s data privacy and safety, therefore, promoting a safer and age-appropriate online environment.
Through unpacking publicly available announcements from social media and digital platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Amazon Marketplace, and Google Search, Children and Screens have provided clear evidence of the positive impact of the UK AADC.
“These changes, which span critical areas such as safety and well-being, privacy and security, and time management, mark significant strides toward mitigating the risks associated with digital media among youth,” said Kris Perry, Executive Director of Children and Screens.
As affirmed by Children and Screens the identified positive changes from the AADC serve as proof of the critical role regulation plays in building a safe and empowering environment for children and young people.
