Persuasive Design

In 2018, 5Rights Foundation published its influential report Disrupted Childhood: The Cost of Persuasive Design.

Persuasive design combines behavioural science, psychological theory, and technology to influence user behaviour through the design and delivery of digital services. Human instincts, such as the brain’s response to rewards and punishments, can be leveraged through persuasive design to keep children online, nudge them towards giving up more of their data, or behave in other ways that serve a commercial purpose.

The report brought the issue to many policy makers for the first time.
